After Weeks of Stalemate, BCCI Says Talks with Naqvi Over Asia Cup Trophy are on

After all the confusion and stress since India beat Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final, it looks like this trophy situation is almost over. The game in Dubai on September 28 was a massive deal for India. But things got weird after that. The Indian players didn’t want to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who is both President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. So, the trophy’s been at the ACC offices in Dubai ever since no one gave it to anyone, and both sides were stubborn.

The BCCI kept asking questions and wanted ACC just to give them the trophy. But Naqvi wanted some kind of ceremony in India, with a player there to get it. Clearly, there’s a lot of politics mixed up in this. At one point, the BCCI was even thinking about asking the International Cricket Council to help sort things out.

But now, things are moving forward. On November 8, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said he talked to Naqvi, and “the ice has been broken.” Both sides seem ready to work it out, and the ICC is helping. Saikia sounded positive that the trophy will be in India soon.

This whole thing has been a big deal not just for the people in charge, but because it’s taken attention away from the players and caused problems between the cricket boards. For India, the trophy is something they earned. For the ACC and PCB, all the rules and traditions are fundamental. Fixing this will make things normal again and hopefully be a good example in the future.

Now, both boards seem willing to work with the ICC on the details, making sure India gets the trophy in a respectful way. After that, everyone can go back to enjoying the great cricket from the 2025 Asia Cup.
