Ravindra Jadeja Sets Condition in Trade Involving Sanju Samson

Word is, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), both big IPL teams, are talking about a possible trade before the 2026 deadline to keep players.

The big idea? Sanju Samson would go to CSK, and Jadeja would head to RR. Word is Sam Curran might also go to RR as part of this deal.

Apparently, Jadeja wants to be the captain of RR if he switches teams.

Sanju Samson has been with the Royals for a long time. He’s scored the most runs for them ever and supposedly told the team after the 2025 season he wouldn’t mind a change.

Where things stand

  • The trade is still not officially confirmed. CSK and RR are yet to finalise the paperwork and submit it to the governing body (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for approval.
  • One major hurdle: RR currently have its overseas player quota full and limited purse space. This complicates the move of Curran (an overseas player) to Rajasthan.
  • An expert view from former cricketer R Ashwin suggests that even if the trade goes through, Samson may not become CSK’s captain immediately.

Why this matters

For Chennai Super Kings, getting Samson would beef up their batting and wicket-keeping, plus get them ready for when MS Dhoni retires. For Rajasthan Royals, landing an all-rounder like Jadeja (or Curran) would give them the experience and finishing skills they’ve been lacking.

Jadeja wanting to be captain shows he’s not just switching teams; he wants to lead. So, this isn’t just a player trade; it’s a change in how the teams are built.

Want me to get all the player stats, contract info, and how each team’s lineup would change if this happens?
